Land Ho!

Today's fun adventure - a pirate cruise with friends to celebrate the 8th birthday of Mack-

We sailed the seven seas (a dirty river), landed on a desert island (filled with people drinking beer and floating in the dirty river) and dug for buried treasure (candy, beads and rings).  It was actually quite fun.  Loved Captain Tim and Martha, the couple that decided to follow their dream and build a pirate ship.  Even their son, Sharktooth, was along for the ride.  I do hope that is not his real name, but it might just be.

Morale of the story:  Follow your dreams.  Enjoyed the day but alas, the pirate life is not for me.

Confession

I have a confession to make - I am not techno savvy.  Sometimes it might appear that I am, but I am hiding behind my ultra savvy husband.  Sure, I have a blog, an iPhone, a Facebook account and can push my computer's remote to start playing music while I'm cooking dinner - but these were all set up by my husband.

Here is why I am not under consideration for any technical awards - I really don't care.  I have no desire to upload or download (what's the difference anyway?!) my calendar to my computer or phone.  Why would I take the time to do that when I can just carry my cute ringed paper calendar in my purse?  It requires a pen or pencil - no stylus, no cords, no loading (be it up, down or sideways)

Last week, I received an e-mail reminder about today's dental appointment.  Like a good little patient, I clicked on "I can keep the appointment."  I had already remembered the appointment because, of course, I had written it down in pen in my calendar.  One hour before the appointment, I received a text reminding me of the appointment and one hour after I returned home, I received an e-mail thanking me for coming.  Really?  The free toothbrush was thanks enough.

A few years ago, Bart taught me how to organize files and photos on my computer.  Now that was helpful.  That I actually use.  And I love e-mail.  People who don't love e-mail have never had to organize a Brownie meeting among twenty moms.  What I don't like about e-mail is that it has replaced letters, just like texting (which I hate) has replaced phone calls.   Today I had to send an evite for a book party I am having because the company doesn't have postcard invites.  WHAT?  Send me a paper invitation anyday.  I'll write the date down in my cute calendar.

We have a new tv system in our house.  Apparently, our new DVR can record something and play it in any room.  I have no idea how to use it.   Bart has tried to show me the basics but I can't get past the fact that my favorite TLC, channel 59 is now channel 400 and something.  Last night, we drove by an ancient television out to someone's trash pile.  Similar to this beauty, it was encased in a "wood" cabinet and I'm sure saw many episodes of the Love Boat.  I told Bart I was tempted to take it.  The round knob with numbers - now that is my speed.
It is so much pressure to keep up with technology.  It scares me to think how my children will be communicating in ten years.  I can't be the only one out there who feels this way.  Feel free to comment by signing into your goggle account, e-mailing me or messaging me on Facebook.  I'll be sitting here staring at my blank tv.

Pitter Patter

On the day of the fire, I was many days into obsessing about a baby.  Waiting for a phone call, waiting for an e-mail, waiting for anything that illuminated the path to our 4th baby.  Then the fire happened, and my focus shifted to the three "babies" I already have - where will they sleep, are they traumatized, they need clothes and shoes and coats........ Fast forward to today and I've noticed something now that everything is unpacked - we have an empty bedroom, an empty chair at the table, an empty seat in the car and when school starts in a few weeks, I will be by myself at home all day.  I find myself dreaming of that little person again and the children are talking about it to.  Does everyone else read into fortunes when you are dreaming of something?  I hope so - although this one wasn't too hard to stretch:

I really think its a message from God- or at the very least, from the man working at the fortune cookie factory.  Either way, I'm counting on it.

Home sweet new/old home

Funny to be in my own house and not feel quite at home.  Could be because we are living with a painter, a contractor and today added a plumber and a shower door installer!  Here are a few pics of my new favorite spots:

More tomorrow!

And now back to the regularly scheduled blog - already in progress

Back home!  It feels great- different but great.  I can not believe that my bathroom looks like this:

And that my kitchen looks like this:

It feels like we are on vacation!  After 5 months of emotional fireside chats, my blog will now return to its regularly scheduled program.
